Best Panic attacks treatment: Im 5 months pregnant and have panic attacks, my friend an RN said it wouldnt hurt to try marijuana for them?

  • Poppy: John is due 12/19/08 · 7 months ago
There is an adverse effect on the fetus with marijuana too!!! I do not agree with your friend (no offense). There have been clinical studies on some anxiety drugs and they are rated in the Pregnancy Category B classification (most are C). I would MUCH rather take FDA controlled drugs. You have no clue what is in street drugs. I suggest going to a doctor and talking about this before smoking marijuana which has been linked to many of the same effects as alcohol on the fetus.

I wouldnt do it. I have had panic attacks since I was 13, I've had to learn to talk myself down from them. I would get them when i was 5 months pregnant because I was afraid of not being able to breathe well when the baby was full term.

NO!! this can have horrible effects on the fetus as well. Talk to a dr. about the possibility of non-medical help (such as hypno-therapy, breathing techniques, etc.)

I'm studying to be an RN and I don't know why your friend told you that. But marijuana is not good for your baby. I have asthma and panic attacks and I can't even use my inhaler because it could hurt the baby. The best thing for you to do is talk to your doctor

I won't jump on you, because I have had this conversation many times with the OBs I work closely with, and the vast majority of them see marijuana as one of the least harmful substances a woman could use while pregnant when compared side-by-side with other substances like tobacco, alcohol, or other street drugs. That it NOT to say that marijuana is perfectly safe, because it isn't, so if you're taking it because you believe it will have NO adverse effects you are not being realistic. But using it occassionally during pregnancy is no more harmful than an occassional glass of wine (and people overreact about that, too).

Talk to your doctor, don't take anyone else's word for it. Honestly, your doctor will probably encourage you to take a prescription medication - some of those used to treat anxiety are very safe during pregnancy, such as Vistaril. If you decide to use the marijuana please just be honest with your doctor about it. They won't look down upon you, they just need to know what you're taking so they can provide you and your baby with the best level of care they can.

    Good luck!

    ITS NEVER OK!
I CANT BELIEVE IT WOULD COME FROM AN RN!

MARIJUANA OR ANY RELAXANTS CAN CROSS THE PLACENTA BARRIER AND WILL GREATLY AFFECT YOUR BABY! THE BABY BE LIKE "SEDATED"

I think it wouldnt hurt. Many people smoke marijuana whilst pregnant, the 70's and 80's it was more common but these days people who smoke occasionally aret hurting their baby. Give it a rest people.

Also they recommend it for morning sickness too lol

    I have anxiety.
    I smoke 420.
    I know alternatives.

breathe the best thing for anxiety and your body is deep breaths. check out your health insurance, mine is awesome and covers acupuncture it has helped a million with my anxiety.

there are natural herbs like kava that have no negative side effects and calm you down. go to a vitamin supplement store or any natural remedy shop and ask a sales person for recommendations.

I have heard that, and while I dont know, I wouldnt recommend it. Not just the worry of birth defects, but..... If you are drug tested during your preg (and you and the baby WILL be tested at delivery) you stand chance to have your baby taken away from you.
