Give yoga a try. You can learn it and practice in the comfort of your own home.
You don't need to do any fancy moves, just the basics with the most important part, the breathing techniques.
I know of a few friends who have used yoga for different stress-related troubles and all have had success.

My boyfriend has panic attacks also..... mostly in public places
Some people say that you can beat it mentally if you talk yourself down in the middle of one
I also know that some people take zanex and prozac but its not recommended
There is a drug that doesn't knock you out or make you a zombie and its called larazapan
My boyfriends mom takes that because panic attacks can be hereditary

I used to have panic attacks frequently. They have gotten better over the years. There is no complete "cure" for it but you can out grow it. Panic attacks are genetic trait, so there could be someone in your family in the past who has had them, but since you say that they have gotten better you may be out growing them, but don't feel bad because they will get better to a point that you won't need medicine anymore. you should probably see a doctor if it gets too bad though. I wish you the best luck! :)

there is no cure, but you can learn (i did in therapy) how to calm yourself back down. there are also fast acting medicines (lexapro is not fast acting) like xanax (i take the generic- alprazolam) that can help too.

Xanax as needed.. I find that just having one in my pocket is enough to get me past that initial fear and can ride out the attack knowing that if it gets worse i have the pill. usually that's enough. more often then not the pill gets laundered (I forget to take it out of my pocket), but if I have to take it it seems to do the trick

Panic Attacks and Anxiety Disorders are such a complex subject that you have to speak to a professional and try different options. If you are seeing your regular doctor only, ask to be referred to a psychiatrist or psychologist. You need the best support you can get and often a regular doctor doesn't have all the answers.

Lexapro is a longer-acting drug that you would take on a regular basis as prescribed by your doctor. Ativan is a more potent drug used when you feel panic coming on or if you are in stressful situation. They may not be the right ones for you...you may have to try others that could potentially make you feel better. Also, make sure the dosage is correct...maybe you need more or less.

You don't so much "cure" panic attacks but learn to handle the situations that bring them on better. Meds are a part of that but knowing what sets you off, what support system you have around you and speaking with a professional in anxiety disorders is the way to go.

    Good luck

I would suggest you try some relaxation techniques on a daily basis. Breathing exercises are generally good for dealing with anxiety and panic attacks.

It is very possible to cure your panic attacks by making small changes in your life. These can involve getting adequate sleep at night, eating more healthy meals and cutting out junk foods.

Drink plenty of water and if possible try to cut out any sources of stress in your life that could being raising your anxiety levels.

here's a sure remedy. It may sound easy, and simple, and downright obvious, but it will address your anxiety problems immediately.

    and the solution is:
    1) stop those thoughts
    2) think positive
    3) think positive
    4) think positive

    have i mentioned enough? =)

panic attacks is really the outcome of our own doing. Until we find the reason why it occurs, we would still by afflicted by it. So ,I suggest that you make a concerted effort to think positively in whatever situations you come into, especially those typical situations that have given you the attacks. You could overturn those 'bad' scenarios and tell yourself that you'd be able to overcome it with your positiveness.

until you learn to deal with the anxiety, to understand how it works and what it means, it will not go away.

therefore,I propose that you start small and simple, and that is by thinking positively =)

If that is something that you think you might not be able to achieve, then i recommend that you go for a behavioural therapy. It conditions your mind to remove the fear that you have of things that trigger your panic attacks.

    Hope it helps.

    Sunshine,

I know just how you feel.

For 3 years I had panic attacks and each time I literally thought I was going to die. I didn't tell anybody about this either. Then, one night, my boyfriend found me hyperventilating in bed and rushed me to the hospital. There, they told me it was a panic attack. They gave me tranquilizers (but I didn’t want to get addicted to sedatives) and the name of a therapist that I really liked. My therapist told me about this program:

He really shouldn't have told me about this program because it cured my panic attacks and I no longer needed to see him.

I kept my appointments with him anyway because I liked talking to him and he also noticed how much more relaxed I was since the panic attacks stopped.

    Anyway, hope this helps. Cheers,
    Martha

PS: I exercise regularly now and I think this help quite a bit too.
