i have felt wat u are feeling now and am recovering medication free all the way..but one way i try to deal with late night ones is increasing sugar intake..remember that if u drop ur shoulders and breathe slow a panic attack is less likely..and a panic attack wont kill you or harm u in anyway its ur body releasing adrealine at the wrong time..i have agoraphobia and used to wake up in panic but after taking note of what was changing in my days and adding or removing certain things i found a great balance and have returned to work after 13yrs and never once used any medication...
and yes you can live a normal life..sounds to good to be true but i always thought this is how my life will be for good...but with good management it can be done but you really have to want it and put in the hard work....i really hope this helps and i wish u luck :)

I've found the only thing that works is keeping myself busy..I"ve recently taken up sewing and has done wonders! It keeps my mind and my hands busy so I'm not thinking about the "what if's" and not focusing on being alone while my family is alseep (I'm a night owl and they are all in bed by 9pm)
you could try any sort of crafty thing, yoga, meditation..anything that keeps you busy. medication is not always the answer!! doctors sometimes don't give you other options thinking that everyone expects meds to help.

I also have Ativan (Lorazepam) when it gets really bad. I'm not sure if your familiar with that medication, but I like it because it's not something that I have to take every day to be effective. When I feel a panic attack coming on I can take one and within 15-20 minutes I am feeling better.

Also, may I recommend a book, that simply reading random chapters makes me feel THOUSANDS of times better. I carry it with me when I travel so that if I panic, I can find a quiet place and read it.

EDIT: OH, just something maybe to help for the moment, taken basically from the book I linked you: Those feelings you get are normal. They are a normal human body reaction to fear, and you are OK. If you are super worried, have a physician check you out, to make sure you are alright physically, but 9/10 times you are. Don't let every new sensation scare you. The faint feeling is because when you panic you use adrenaline, and your liver hasn't had time to recover a certain chemical in your body that makes your legs not shaky, etc. Trust me, you'll be ok. : )

Your last alternative is psychotherapy, to address its fundamental cause: read section 1, and examine the 1-800-therapist website, and use the locators, and phone book. I used to suffer from panic attacks, until I questioned what had changed recently in my life, to trigger them? I suggest that you learn, then practise the controlled breathing technique, until competent, then employ it, at the very first sign of a panic attack.

I have this same problem and can pretty much get relief when I follow this regime. It helps. Hope it offers you some relief.
