The answerer above seems to be talking about a low blood sugar attack, like hypoglycemia which can be solved with a glass of orange juice.

One suggestion I have is to talk to a doctor or counselor if these occur frequently.
Good Luck!

Sorry to hear that you are having this problem. There are many many symptoms of panic/ anxiety syndrome.
Rapid pulse, sweats, feeling like the air is not enough, feeling like you are going to have a heart attack, light headdedness, various pains, numbness in the hands/ arms. I feel for you if you are going through this.
Often panic attacks come about after some trauma or past life event. Sometimes this reason is known to you, sometimes not. These panics can be literally triggered by nothing. It is what they call the fight or flight response, but you probably know this.
I have suffered from panics since I was physically and mentally bullied as a child and hoipefully it seems like I have turned a corner.
Have you considered counselling ?
But that is not for everyone. There is a really good PDF file that you can google. Just google Social anxiety PDF. I found it extremely helpful and it works. Also there are many relaxation tapes that help. There is a Doctor down south called Doctor Albert Smith. Try and google him, his tapes are very helpful.
Email me anytime if you want to talk. I also have a blog that you can go to and contact me privately.
http://alonehelp.blogspot.com/ It is a voluntary non profit blog that is just for anyone that wants to talk in confidentiality.

Wikipedia - However the DSM IV is not necessarily the most useful thing for diagnosing illnesses. It is more of a guideline.
