Best Panic attacks treatment: What do you think is the root cause of panic attacks?

I think it is a combination. I have 3 sisters and we are all close in age, and all raised the same. 2 of us (including me) are fine, and the other 2 are messes.

It's the body's maladaptive response to anxiety. It overreacts in response to stress. It paves the ground for more problems and it does nothing for the original problem.

Think of it as banging your head against the wall because you can't find a cure for your headache.

constant stress. Try to relax a little bit. Give your mind and body time to heal it self.

I think its hereditary. My mom is a complete basketcase and so I am most of the time. It's seems to be genetic and a chemical imbalance. And any added stress or fears are just fuel to the fire. I think it's also somthing programmed into your system when you growing up and just gets worse when you become an adult.

It could be a combination of all those things but I would also say stress. Alot of stress can cause people to panic and freak out.

I did notice this: When I would have them, what usually preceded one was either hearing a particular high pitched sound, like from a television program's music, OR after eating particular types of sauce, like on pizza.
Knowing that music hits the limbic system in the brain, which is a direct connection to emotions, I think explains that one.
The other, I think could be an allergic reaction to whatever particular spice was used in those certain sauces.

Recognizing this helped, in that I could avoid it, or watch it come. Somehow, facing it down makes it less.
What eliminates them entirely for me is to immediately begin praying, or meditating on the Bible. Really, it works for me.
I don't give much credibility to the "chemical imbalance" excuse that seems to be wheeled out and applied to so many things.
